I've heard some high-profile energy-healing types recently knocking "process healing," stating that the only thing that makes any difference is releasing specific patterns about specific incidents for specific releasing results.
Based on my own experience, I find that hogwash.
To me, they both have a welcome place in my processing journey, just like psychological therapy, bodywork, yoga, and a whole array of other lovely things which assist me in various ways at various times of my journey. Each stepping stone carries me forward just a bit; together, they get me across the stream dry as I want to be.
IMO, the process way of thinking is a way that has not been appreciated much in our culture up until now, and is inevitably and inexorably coming to be more and more important as people seek greater balance and wholeness in relation to themselves and to the planet.
Greater comfort with process is a natural outgrowth of the wave of Eastern teachers, philosophies and religions which the West has been embracing more andre and more heartily since the 1950s. This kind of thinking is becoming so mainstream that it's almost indistinguishable from popular culture -- witness the success of radical being/presence teacher Eckart Tolle (whose Internet course was made available in partnership with Oprah Winfrey of all people, and it don't get more mainstream than that).
In my process, energy work of both process and specific subject matters actually helps me personally integrate these two ways of thinking into something even greater and more in touch with the wholeness of intuition. Here's how it can work:
When I become aware of an unwanted pattern, I rely on my intuition to guide me on when to process, and then whether to do a specific releasing (i.e. releasing emotions around a certain incident or pattern of childhood) or a process one (i.e. releasing the emotions I am having right now in the course of my day without reference to the past or specific things.
With EFT, a process session starts right where I am: "Even though I'm anxious writing this post today and I don't usually feel like this, I deeply and completely love and accept myself, etc." This has the effect of assisting me to integrate any specific healing I've done around the pattern before (even though I don't have to make it conscious or name it), and just generally making my present moment better (something I am perfectly happy doing for its own sake, and even happier doing in the context of an overall intuitive sense that I am holistically progressing).
For myself, if I did just specific sessions, I would not be working in synch with my own personal guidance system. And it's the same if I did just process; for me, alternating the two is what I was guided to over time as I refined more and more what I wanted in results. I personally am of the belief that anywhere you start is fine, and that your own desire to heal and your guidance system will guide you to refine more and more what to do when in order to reinforce and work with in trust your own personal healing mechanisms and ways.
Thanks for being here.
